I think it would be a great idea to build a sidewalk with the bridge. Bikers, joggers, and runners would appreciate it. I ride my bike a lot and would greatly appreciate it.
My husband and I traveled to Biloxi, MS over the weekend, and this was the first time we noticed the sidewalks on the new bridge. I think sidewalks give the bridge character and offer pedestrians a new way to commute within their community. Catherine Darring-Collins
I believe that the new bridge should have a side walk. With today's economy some people have considered other options for trasportation which this new sidewalk would be utilized. It is a great idea for pedestrians and people that have car trouble. Alex Dyson
I agree that the proposed bridge should have access for pedestrians and cyclist alike but the cost may be too great. The sidewalks and bike paths would need to be extended somehow on the bay way or causeway.
The Golden Gate Bridge is a tourist attraction for San Francisco-why not use the new proposed bridge in the same manner for our area?! I think it's a great idea.
Bridges should always have bike and pediastran side walks because in case of emergency, you may walk or use a bike, also high prices in gasoline may end in us using bikes, or just for excercise purpose and relaxed time. I lived 26 years in NY, and I walked, Brooklyn Bridge and Queens Borough Bridge, and its a wonderful experience
I think that these walkways would be appreciated by riders and pedestrians and would grant them access to the other side of the river. This would surely also be of great benefit to those in any sort of automobile breakdown as well.
I honestly think with the horrible drivers there are in Mobile as compared to the rest of the nation, that this is a horrible idea. It would probably increase the mortality rate of Mobile County by 100%.
I think it would be a great idea to build a sidewalk with the bridge. It is obvious that we may not use it now. However, the next generations may use it.
If there were anything other than Austel on the other side of the bridge, then I would think it is a good idea. One day that area may be booming with business to need to get to, but right now it's an industrial park and highly susceptible to hurricane damage, so I think it's unlikely any kind of tourist attracting or large work-force-utilizing businesses will open. If it does, sidewalks are probably a good investment.
Sidewalks are definitely needed if a new bridge is to be built if ONLY because of automobile breakdowns. The current bridge's breakdown lane is incredibly small and it would really comfort me to know that if I had to wait for someone or walk to get help I would have a place to do that.
I think this is a very good idea for the ones that have no transportation, and it will be helpful when someone car suddenly decide to break down.
